SCRC - World Rowing Masters Regatta
Communication & Cooperation
No doubt you are now aware of the World Rowing Masters Regatta to be held in St.Catharines from September 2nd – 5th 2010. As the home town rowing club I have no doubt that we will be able to show off our home town, our boathouse and your jack and tanned ready to race rowing physique. In order to put our best foot forward for this event it is important that we continue to communicate amongst our groups, with our reps Marion and Wernher and with myself. The earlier and better communication we have about our goals the easier it will be to work together to give everyone the best chance to succeed at the regatta.
To open lines of communication we shall start by having each group decide on one person to contact Marion or Wernher about the intentions of the group to compete or not in the September event. From there, discussion can open up into whether or not a second event would be looked at, or breaking the boat down/up to other events. For those of you that have a single and wish to only participate in your single please let us know as most communication will involve equipment and crew organization.

Equipment
For 2010 we will have our normal boating assignment beginning at the end of CSSRA. As best as possible some folks might be able to access equipment during the high school season but it will be limited. Once again, at the end of CSSRA, equipment will be assigned as it has been for the past few years. I expect that most will be in the same equipment they have been while all programs practice and train for Henley. For the World Masters Regatta a second boat draw will be done. In order to maintain some consistency we will not use pairs but instead use the best available doubles. This will be done from the masters groups sending me boating requests, then assigned based on boat speed. Once all SCRC members/competitors from 2009 have their assignments we will move on to others. There will also be some SCRC equipment provided for the boat pool. Of course this equipment will not be shells that could be expected to be used by SCRC members. Use of the shells from the second boat draw will begin on Monday August 9th and end on Sunday September 5th; the fall season will return to our usual equipment draw as best as possible.
*A maximum of 4 shells (2 cox fours & 2 doubles) might be held until August 12th for Ontario Summer Games.
Equipment Requests
To request equipment, prioritize the first event that you wish to compete in to achieve the highest success, then the second event for success. Once confirmed with by the crew, ONE person from the crew email Mark Welsh scrc-coach@hotmail.com by noon on Friday July 2nd. Again, the requests are needed so that equipment can be set aside for loyal SCRC members and their pursuit of success at this regatta. Remaining shells will be used in the boat rental pool so that the rowing club can contribute to the success of the event as well as make some cash. The assignment list will be released as soon as possible.
Uniform
I have spoken to RegattaSport about whether or not they are going to undertake an effort to create uniforms for this event as they did for Montreal in 2001. For Montreal a nationwide unitop and unisuit was created with the participant’s home rowing club embroidered on the garment. This was an interesting way of showing our solidarity of country as well as rowing club. If this option is brought forward the Rowing Committee (Board of Director Vice Presidents Tim Dumont and Brian Fisher and myself) along with input from you all through Wernher and Marion will decide on using our traditional SCRC uniform or the one from RegattaSport. Regardless of the decision made by the Rowing Committee we will as one rowing club wear one uniform.
Registration Fee and Entries
The registration fees for the regatta are the responsibility of the members. Entries for the event are due into the online entry system by August 2nd. In order to get the entries into the system without error and to allow time for communication, hiccups and hurdles, they are due into Mark Welsh two days before the registration deadline on July 30th. Entries that come in earlier or in one email with all summer regattas are greatly appreciated. Entries will not be entered into the online system until payment has been submitted.
As per all regatta rules, LATE ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
Code of Conduct
Section 1.2 of the SCRC Handbook describes the athlete code of conduct applying to all members. More specific to this regatta and to all masters’ regattas is the understanding that events are entered with the priority being on the success of the race. All events entered shall be raced to the full capacity of the members. All are encouraged to take part in social events of the regatta with the understanding that the priority is still to the best performance possible.
