JNT Camp

Greetings Athletes and Coaches:

We are planning on an afternoon camp at South Niagara RC on Sat, May 8th from 2.00-4.30 pm.

We have traditionally run a camp the day before Mother's Day and rarely seen it interfere with results at the regatta the next day. If anything, it is a great tune up. And it gets you onto the course where the June trials will be held.

The schedule will be as follows:

2.00-3.00     technical row on the course with some pointers from various coaches

3.00-3.30    Break

3.30-4.00    Warm up for mock 1500m time trial ( to ready you for the June trials)

4.00            Time Trial

4.30            Results and Wrap Up

Alan Oldham from the Guelph Rc will be heading up this camp.We welcome and require additional coaches and I hope to be there but in a limited capacity this time around. So please join us coaches.

The intent of the camp is to row in small boats as per the time trial- 1x and 2-s and for this camp we will allow 2xs.

IT IS CRITICAL THAT YOU SUPPLY YOUR OWN EQUIPMENT AS SOUTH NIAGARA RC IS NOT IN A POSITION TO PROVIDE EQUIPMENT. Again, at the trials you will be responsible for your equipment so start chatting with your coaches and clubs now to plan for the camp and the trials.

Everyone is welcome to attend including all ages and coxswains.

If you have not spent time in a small boat but would like to attend the camp let us know and we might be able to put the odd 4+ or 4x together.

Please rsvp to me and Alan....copied on e-mail by Tues, May 4th at 11.59 pm at the latest.

I look forward to hearing and seeing everyone....cheers.

John

The Spring Single Count

Single Owners! !

On Saturday May 8th 2010 we want all singles out of the boathouse and on the water.  Due to the Head of the Martindale schedule we have a limited window of opportunity and will cooperate with organizers from Ridley Graduate Boat Club.  All singles must be on the water as close to the grandstand as possible by 8:30am for a photo, then off the water by 9:00am so that the race can get under way.

Wouldn't it be great to be a part of the photo that has 100…….200 singles in it?  There will be boats here from all over the region, the province and Western New York for the regatta so come on out and get in the picture.  Whether you have been training daily or have not had your boat on the water in month or years, this is the day to get on the water and get involved.

Saturday May 8th is the day of Head of the Martindale so you can get some racing in while at the island.  If you are paid and registered for summer club your Head of the Martindale entry is covered.  Look for the sign-up sheet in Bay 1.

Thank you
Mark Welsh, Head Coach

Head of the Martindale

Greetings all-
This is the second email blast of information for the Head of the Martindale, which will be held on Saturday, May 8 in St. Catharines.  It is the 33rd annual race around Martindale Pond, for singles only - hosted by Hudson Boat Works, with an entry deadline of Tuesday, May 4.  (It is also the day of the RowOntario singles count, with a photo planned of all the singles on the water... Let's get good weather and have many singles out that day!)
As usual our events are Open, Ltwt, HS and Veteran, with the Veterans and HS Women doing 1 lap of the course at 10:10 and the others doing 2 laps at 11:00.  The BBQ will follow, with results and medals to be presented once complete.  Come share in the day-
We know many of you will feel that you aren't ready for a race, but consider it as the first race of the year, with a good solid row around the course - and lots of stories to tell during the BBQ.  We also know several University rowers will be away at regattas, but hope to see a variety of people - of all ages and speeds.
Please see the attached information, for entry form, map of the course and rules of the regatta.  See you on the 8th-

BRIAN DELL

Members of the St.Catharines Rowing Club.

It is with great sadness that I announce the loss of one of our club program head coaches.

Deciding to step away from coaching Brian Dell will be leaving behind one of the most successful programs in the rowing clubs history.

Brian has been at the head of the Senior Lightweight Women's program from 2006 – 2009 and for many years previous, building the program to new heights.

2009 had to be the highlight for Brian and for the athletes as they brought home Henley Gold in the SrBLwt Women's 2-, 4-, 8+, SrALwt Women's 8+ and the Lwt Women's DASH 8. It is incredible having a program win 5 gold, to have two of the athletes be in all 5 boats and have another athlete team up with another JrB to win the JrB Women's 2x. Brian has been a valuable contributor to the program and to the rowing club.

His insight, experience and willingness to support everyone will be missed. We hope that he returns to visit the club as often as possible as he is going to be missed. All the best to Brian and his family.

With the recommendation of Brian and the support of the rowing club I am happy to announce the placement of Ron (Swede) Burak into the role of Head Coach of the Senior Lightweight Women's program. Swede's dedication to rowing is obvious as we look to the past success with the JrB women and the Brock University lightweight women. No doubt Swede will be on the water every morning with the women as they start out the season in singles and doubles, looking to put lightweight women on provincial and national teams.

Junior Trials in June

Greetings Athletes and Coaches:

I apologize for the delay in communication but as you are aware from previous e-mails I have had some health issues this year and I have been working hard on trying to get well. I appreciate your patience and support and I along with Gavin will do our best to keep you informed and encouraged towards striving for opportunities with the RCA Junior Team this summer be it the World Championships or CanAmMex.

Messages may be brief and too the point ( ah good things come from illnesses at times!) but I am striving for them to be more frequent as we near the racing season.

There will be the Junior Trials held again on the Monday and Tuesday (June 7-8) after the CSSRA Championships. The format will be similar to year's past with an initial time trial on the Monday followed by semi-finals that day and finals the Tuesday morning. The results of the June trials will be used to select participants to the World Championship Team or CanamMex or a follow up Selection Camp should it be needed. You need to be prepared to perform your best on that day in either a 1x or a 2-. Additional information will be coming in the weeks ahead.

I am hoping that we can arrange a day/afternoon camp this spring to help move people along. Again details will be forthcoming.

Please pass this e-mail on to any interested athletes or coaches and have them feel free to contact me or Gavin with any questions or concerns. I apologize if I have missed forwarding this e-mail to anybody!

I miss seeing everyone and hope to see your smiling faces in the not so far future.
