2009 ROWONTARIO Bursary Award
ROWONTARIO recognizes that for an athlete to excel both academically and in the sport of rowing during their high school career, that athlete must possess the same characteristics that will see them excel in life.
ROWONTARIO also recognizes the financial burden placed on those athletes who want to continue their rowing and academic careers at an Ontario university.
ROWONTARIO believes it is very important to support those athletes who continue to excel academically and athletically in as many ways as possible.
With this in mind, ROWONTARIO created the ROWONTARIO Bursary Award.
In 2009, ROWONTARIO will present up to two (2) cash awards totalling $5,000.00 (1- $5,000.00 award or 2-$2,500.00 awards, at the discretion of the selection committee) to a deserving applicant (or applicants) who meet(s) the eligibility criteria below.
In order to apply to the ROWONTARIO Bursary Award Program, the athlete must meet the following criteria:
1. Achieved an overall average of 80% or higher as a full-time high school student in the 2008/09 academic year. (Special consideration may be given to those who have a recognized learning disability and can provide supporting documentation confirming the diagnosis of a recognized learning disability.)
2. Must have been registered with ROWONTARIO as a high school rower through an Ontario rowing club in the spring of 2009. *
3. Must have been registered with ROWONTARIO as a competitive rower through an Ontario rowing club in the summer of 2009.
4. Must have competed in the finals at the 2009 Canadian Secondary Schools Rowing Association Championships Regatta.
5. Must have competed in the finals at the 2009 ROWONTARIO Rowing Championships Regatta.
6. Must be registered as a Full-Time student at an Ontario university with a rowing program in September 2009 and must commit to trying out for the University rowing program as a Jr. Varsity or Varsity rower.
*The applicant's home club must have registered all high school rowers for 2009 with ROWONTARIO in order for any athletes from that club to be considered for the Bursary Award.
Process:
1. Applicant must submit completed application form and all required supporting documentation to the ROWONTARIO office via regular post or email by 3pm EDT, Wednesday August 12, 2009. Faxed applications will not be accepted or considered.
2. All applications will be reviewed by the selection committee.
3. Award winner will be announced by August 28, 2009.
4. Award will be made payable to the University the winner is attending and issued as soon as proper arrangements are made with the University and athlete.
