CanAmMex Announcement

Dear coaches,

We were recently informed by US Rowing they are withdrawing from entering this years CanAmMex scheduled to be held in Mexico City July 15 to 19. Their reason for withdrawing stems from the recent outbreak of H1N1 outbreak and concerns for safety of US citizens in Mexico at the present time.

After due deliberation, Rowing Canada has also made the decision to withdraw from the competition based on our concern for the welfare of our athletes. The Mexican organizers of the event have been informed of this decision.

As an alternative, US Rowing has offered both Mexico Rowing and Rowing Canada the option to compete as CanAmMex teams at the US Club Nationals to be held in Oak Ridge Tennessee from July 15 to 19. US Rowing will  be fielding a complete team for this event and we have decided to accept the offer to attend the US Club Nationals.

Selection for this event will follow the same process as for the CanAmMex team and the selected team will compete as the Canadian team at the US Club Nationals. Selection will be based on results at the upcoming Junior Trials and our plan of course is to put together a team that will be very competitive while providing to our young athletes an experience that will be rewarding, enjoyable and a good platform for long term athlete development.

I would ask that you pass on this message to any of your coaches who have athletes competing at next weeks trials.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions and look forward to seeing many of you at the Junior trials early next week.

Announcement to Ontario Athletes

NOTICE TO ALL ONTARIO ATHLETES

The final selection processes for the 2009 National Rowing Championships and the 2009-2010 Ontario Athlete Assistance Program (OAAP = Quest for Gold Cards) have not yet been finalized.

However, at this time we are now announcing that all athletes interested in representing Ontario at the 2009 National Championship Regatta and athletes interested in applying for 2009-2010 Ontario Athlete Assistance Program (OAAP) funding will require a RADAR score to be considered for both the NRC and the OAAP.

This will be mandatory criteria in both selection processes.

In order to achieve this, athletes MUST compete at the Ontario Assessment Camp on August 23, 2009 in Welland, ON.

This will be a small boat (1X's and 2-'s) time trial event.

Additional details on this event will be released soon.

Between the August 23 and September 15, athletes must also complete a skill assessment and a testing battery.  For more information on the RADAR program, please visit the Coach and Athlete Resources section of the ROWONTARIO website at www.rowontario.ca

If you have any questions, contact Provincial Coach Phil Marshall via email at coach@rowontario.ca

Cold Water rules

Folks,
Cold water rules are coming off today, a sure sign that spring might actually be upon us.  This is great news for those that would like to get out on the water without the need of a coach boat.  However, I do hope that you all continue to keep safety in mind when heading out on the water on your own.
Keep in mind that this weekend is very busy with many club activities so opportunities to row are few and far between, but statrting Monday things should be back to normal and next weekend most if not all high schoolers will be away (as will the shells), but the water should be calm from no coach boat swells! ! !

Thank you
