Canada Games and National Team Training

For those interested in trying out for Canada Games or National Teams the rowing club will offer a training session in the morning immediately following the morning high school shift.  The group will meet at 7:00am Monday to Friday.  This is an ideal time because all SCRC shells will be available for use, a small group of rowers will be on the water, and there is a good chance the water will still be calm.  If this time slot does not work for you then we have to train during a high school shift.  This is not an ideal situation as the availability of equipment decreases due to high school use.  Obviously most high school students with the intention of trying out for the Junior National Team or CANAMMEX, will have to train during high school training time.  We will decide on weekend training times at a later time.

In order to be eligible to train with this group and to be allocated equipment, you must be registered as a club member and have submitted a minimum of $100.  If you are interested in being a part of this training group send me an email indicating so along with your expected arrival date to the group.  (Some will be coming from Canadian schools, US schools, or Brock Dad Vail training)

Thank you

ROWONTARIO Needs Your Rowing Photos

Hi All!

ROWONTARIO is putting together some promotional material and we need your help.

Instead of hiring a photographer to take the perfect shot, we would like to use your photos.  What pictures are important to you?  Which pictures show your passion for the sport?  Which picture is worth a thousand of your words?

Photos submitted may be used in ROWONTARIO promotional materials, such as PowerPoint presentations, posters, and pamphlets.   We are also hoping to use various photos to help us further develop our website.  Make sure you and all the people in each photo agree to have it used in this manner before you send it.

Interested?  Send photos as .jpg files to Jessica at admin@rowontario.ca.  We will gladly accept your shots year round, however we are preparing some materials now for some formal presentations in early April. We would appreciate receiving as many photos as we can by March 27.

Not sure what to send?   Here are some ideas:  a race start; an overhead shot (e.g. from a bridge) of any one boat; someone on a podium receiving a medal; someone in a boat who is wearing the medal just won; a loaded boat trailer; a masters rower in his/her boat; a coach in the coach boat (coaching, not just waving at the camera); adaptive rowers on land or on the water; a cox'n in his/her seat; someone on an erg; a row of people competing on ergs; a small group of friends posing on land for a group shot; a boathouse; a boat with its reflection on the water; a crew rowing past a particularly beautiful or unusual landscape; a sunset or sunrise with a crew in the foreground; a tour; a boat being carried or being lifted out of the water; a lot of boats on the water together (preferably including rec, touring, and racing in the same shot); someone cleaning, maintaining, or repairing equipment.

Thank you very much!

Regards,

Catherine Barney

BOATsmart! - Get Your Pleasure Craft Operator Card Today!

ROWONTARIO now has an active link to the BOATsmart! Canada website, which can be found on our Home page.  This creates an opportunity for all boaters to take an online exam to receive their Pleasure Craft Operator Card.  This card is required to operate all power drive pleasure crafts (including PWCs and motorized sailboats) used for recreational purposes.  Once the Operator Card has been issued, it will not expire.

The cost to register for this exam is $49.95 + GST.  A Supervisor is also required to register for free during regular business hours (Monday – Friday, 9PM-5PM).  The passing grade is 75%, and a free retry is available 24 hours after the exam has been completed.

To prepare for the exam, BOATsmart! Canada provides four options to participate in their Safe Boater Training program.  They include the following:

·         BOATsmart! Canada Safe Boating Manual

·         CD-ROM

·         Online Study Guide

·         Classroom Course
