JAN 17th OARS COACHING CLINIC

As you all know, Chris and I are putting the final touches on our performance based clinic that will be held in London on January 17th.  I have a couple of announcements for those of you who have expressed an interest to come, as well as those who maybe are teetering on the edge.

Chris and I understand that the economic hard times are pinching us all but we still want to learn more about the sport we all love.  As a result, we will be reducing our price from $175 to $155 for first timers and from $150 to $130 for repeat customers.

Secondly, Chris and I put forth a great effort in order to attract people that can hand down knowledge that you can put to use when you leave the clinic.  Karla Van Beveren is a licensed physio therapist as well as a strength and conditioning expert.  She will be guiding us through some exercises that can optimize training at a minimal cost as well as prevent injuries.  Karla along with already confirmed guest Al Morrow will make for can't miss clinic.

Bring your friends and be ready to learn and have fun.  Chris and I are very excited about the clinic and you should be too!  For more information and a complete list of clinic activities, check out our website at www.oarscoaching.com.  Please send this e mail on to your club members or any of your friends that you think may be interested.  There is also a poster attached

ERG WORKSHOP AT RIDLEY WITH OARSCoaching

Dan Bechard and Chris McCully from OARScoaching are willing to come down
to Ridley over the Christmas holidays to conduct an erg clinic.
I did one with them last winter and found it really beneficial. Key areas
covered would be:
1. Optimizing training as well as making winter erging more enjoyable
through a variety of different workouts.
2. How to plan for a 2K race and how to race a 2K race.
3. Individual critiquing of erg technique through videotaping.
4. Learning about Category workouts.
5. Two erg workouts.

The two dates they are looking at are either Sat. Dec. 20 OR Sun. Dec. 21. Time: 9 - 1:00 pm.
I need some feedback from you whether or not you would be interested in coming to this so please reply back as soon as possible.

Dec 13th JUNIOR CAMP

Junior athletes

The Saturday, Dec 13th camp is approaching as is the rsvp deadline of Wednesday, Dec10th at 11:59 pm. Please help us to help you by registering for the camp so that we can organize the schedule to maximize our time together. All are welcome and feel free to pass this on to other junior aged athletes and their coaches.

To facilitate the camp experience and organization, please forward your personal best 6k score. AS A REMINDER, THE NEXT ERG SCORE SUBMISSION DATE FOR THE ROWING CANADA ERG MONITORING PROGRAM ( THAT IS USED WITH ALL THREE LEVELS OF HIGH PERFORMANCE NATIONAL TEAM PROGRAMS- SENIOR/OLYMPIC, UNDER 23 AND JUNIOR) IS SUNDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2008. This information is critical for identifying and tracking athletes at all levels, and serves as a useful tool for athletes and their coaches to monitor their own growth and development as rowers. While erg scores are not the final nor the only criteria used in selecting athletes to national team programs, compliance with the erg monitoring program is a key item in being invited to the National Junior Team March Winter Camp in BC ( and future invitations to national team experiences at the next levels). You may have already done a 6k erg score that you intend to submit for the Dec 14th deadline: treat this upcoming Saturday as a workout and an opportunity to do another one so that you can choose the better of the two to submit. We will be chatting about strategies and ways to approach a 6k erg test.

The focus this Saturday is on winter training and how you might improve your fitness and strength and subsequently your erg scores. Ultimately it will improve the end game- your boat moving ability. If you leave the camp learning at least one thing, it will likely raise your game. Placing yourself in an environment with highly motivated athletes always raises your game. All ships rise with the tide!

I would ask that coaches and coxswains also register for the camp to assist with planning.

If you have already registered for the camp ( athletes, coaches and/or coxswains) and received a confirmation, you are good to go. If not, please register, perhaps again , to ensure your participation.

Thanks.

OLYMPIC ROWING SHIRTS

Good Afternoon,

You wouldn't know me... but you may know many of the men from the Canadian national rowing team.  Adam Kreek is one of the men's eight who one gold in Beijing 2008.  In honour of him, and their team (I'm his sister) we designed and produced some really nice t-shirts.  I am emailing you because I know there are some super athletes in St. Catherines who support the rowing sport.  I have some shirts left.  They are all men's sizing (unisex), small-medium-large and extra large.

Enclosed in the attachment is a photo of the shirt.  If you have any interested enthusiasts, I would love to sell some to you.  They are $20 each.  If you have an order of more then 10, I can include free shipping.  If there are 15 orders or more then I can include a shirt for you for all your work.  These shirts were origionally for the friends and family of the men on the team, but I do have some left over.

If this is something you are not interested in, I am not offended and I appologize for contacting you.  If you think there would be interest at the rowing club, you would need to take down orders, collect the money and mail a cheque to me.  I would mail you the shirts as soon as I know the sizes you request.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

RCA JUNIOR CAMP

Focus: Dry Land Training
When: Saturday, Dec 13th, 11am-4pm
Where: EL Crossley Secondary School, 350 Highway 20, Fonthill, ON, L0S 1E0

Agenda: 6k erg Test
Since all athletes interested in the junior team are expected to submit a 6k erg score online to the RCA erg monitoring program on or before Dec 14th, it will be worthwhile to use the opportunity of gathering as a group to do the December 6k and hopefully motivate athletes to personal best performances. To this end, it will be helpful when replying with your rsvp confirming your attendance at the camp that you include your PB 6k so we can position you beside other athletes with similar 6k scores so that you are pushing each other along during the 6k.

Dry Land Training Techniques:
An overview of dry land training techniques to enhance your on water performance and to prepare you for rowing at a junior elite level or future national team experiences.

This will include discussions and hands on activities including core stability work and weight training.

An anlaysis of dry land training assessments from the previous camp and how you might improve them.

All athletes that are born in 1991 or later are welcome to attend the camp. Coaches are encouraged to attend as well and be prepared to jump in and gets your hands dirty of course.

Please reply by no later than 11:59 pm, Wednesday, December 10th so that we can organize a 6k and camp schedule to help maximize our time together at the camp.

Feel free to pass this on to any other interested athletes, coaches , clubs or school programs that may not be receiving this original e-mail.

Cheers and keep up the training.
